Mustang Announcements

A Word from Principal Hester:
Dear Margaret B. Pollard Middle School Families,

It is my pleasure to welcome you to Margaret B. Pollard Middle School. Margaret B. Pollard Middle School is an extraordinary place for learning! The teachers and staff work diligently to meet the individual needs of all students, and maintain personal connections with their families. I am ever so grateful to be surrounded by such driven, intelligent, and compassionate staff and students. Together with staff, families and community members, we will continue to work to strengthen Margaret B. Pollardís strong reputation as an unique, rigorous, and inclusive learning community.

Our 2014-2015 school wide theme is Academic Success in Progress: Building Student Growth, A Healthy School Culture and Community Involvement. With this theme, we will focus on growing the whole student, creating an inclusive school culture and increasing community involvement and interaction.

I invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering, joining our PTSA, Booster Club, or attending and supporting school and classroom events. I believe that communication is the key to a successful educational experience at Margaret B. Pollard Middle School. I encourage and welcome you to remain in close contact with your studentís teachers. Together, we will continue to advance the quality of our school community, while providing the best for all of our students

Education is a partnership between the school, students, families, and community. I am excited about our educational partnership this year!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call, email or schedule a visit.

Sincerely,
LaShonda B. Hester
8th Grade Field Trip Scholarships Available
†††† This is a reminder that the 8th grade will be taking a field trip to Besty-Jeff Penn 4-H Center in Reidsville either October 13-15 or October 20-22. The cost of the field trip is $120 and includes meals.
†††† Students will gain valuable team building, collaboration, leadership, and communication skills from the trip. Due to the cost of the trip, the school has worked closely with the PTSA to create a scholarship opportunity that will help to alleviate the cost of the trip for 50 students.
†††† By working at the PTSA Thrift Store, 50 students can earn up to $100 for the field trip in October.† (All money will be paid to the school. No money will be paid to individuals for any reason.) All hours worked at the PTSA Thrift Store must be completed between now and September 30.
†††† Click on the links below for more information about the trip and also information regarding the opportunity to earn scholarship money. If you would like for your student or family to participate in this opportunity to earn scholarship money toward the trip, please contact the school to provide his/her name. Pollard Palooza Update!
The Pollard Palooza was a great success this year, thanks to the many parents, students, and teachers who stepped up to help make this such a fun family event.  After costs, the PTSA raised over $7,000!  The PTSA has funded many outstanding programs this year, and will be making a large donation to the school here at the end of the year in order to help fund another computer cart with multiple computers.

It was a lot of fun - thank you for your generosity, and for donating your time and efforts to making this event such a success!

Best 5-8 Book!!
Tuesday evening seven of Pollard’s best writers were honored at the Chatham County Young Authors celebration at Fearrington Barn. Christopher Esther, Meera Butalia, Steph Cruz, Juliana Hubbard, Nina Moll, Anna Pickens and Megan Walker each received a medal, a hard-bound copy of their book and a copy of the novel Three Times Lucky—signed by Newbery Honor author Shelia Turnage. Ms. Turnage offered words of praise and advice to all the young authors. To top it off, our own Meera Butalia won Best 5-8 Book for her story “Saving Simba.” Copies of her book and the others are available in our library.
